Land Ho! (2014)

Land Ho! (2014)

Yes it begins with sexist crap, but that is a self-mockery. Not often is that true in a film. The guy is watching his life wind down. The structure is that as one old man's life is tapering away, another's is sailing forward. Not the most exciting of topics, and a self indulgently male focus, but it is well drawn. The actors are very good, as is the direction. The photography is worthy of the best galleries - the Icelandic scenery, surrealistic nudes, and a sensual portrayal of a brilliant young woman. There are a few hilarious road scenes, and a lyrical love scene. The film portrays old age, vulnerable youth, cautious middle age and perhaps the unborn. The script is poetic. Everything is in balance - the scenery is not the only star. The editing is seamless. If your mind and senses have been numbed by the usual feed, you may not see everything, so maybe go when you haven't been to a movie for a while and can absorb. Something is going right in Iceand - Metalhead was excellent.

This is very interesting American-Icelandic adventure comedy co-written and co-directed by Martha Stephens and Aaron Katz, for many reasons. Simple story, two, almost anti-heroes in real life, very slow pace and mostly barren nature. and you get hooked on it! Of course, my hooking could be due to the fact that one of my favourite Australian actors was in it. Starring Paul Eenhoorn (Australian) as Colin and completely insane Earl Lynn Nelson (American) as sex-crazed Mitch, this movie will almost grind its way to your heart. Slowly and relentlessly! A pair of ex-brothers-in-law set off to Iceland in an attempt to reclaim their youth through Reykjavík nightclubs, trendy spas, and rugged camp-sites. and they do it the proper way, without big plans. An adventure of the lonely pensioners, who are still kicking and alive. Very effective directing, a script which was probably only drafted, excellent scenery and two irresistible characters could not fail. Realistically portrayed, it will even annoy at moments, but all that gives you outstanding melancholic yet vibrant resonance.

I'm almost afraid to say. After one of Mitch's geological anatomical comparisons.
